M'm M'm. Well, what is it that you would like to know? After graduating from a women's college in the northeast, I decided to pursue a degree in media studies, to grasp how we communicate through various forms of visual communication. My interest, for the past five years, has been in representations of the "other." This basically means everyone that is seen as greatly deviating from the imagined social norm and is then only considered and represented within the confines of that perceived deviation. Working with everything from the identity formation theories put forth by people like Hegel and Stuart Hall to ideas in somaesthetics, I am negotiating ways for difference to be understood and represented in various media formats, without simply being used to reinforce negative socio-political ideas. I understand identity and difference gives us a sense of belonging and as social beings, it is important to have that. However, there have to be healthier ways in which we explore identity and ourselves.
